Sports Equinox Analysis

The final video of our sports equinox series ☀️ ⚾️🏈🏒🏀

Over the past couple of weeks we gathered data on each of the 4 largest American sports - categorizing every second of the broadcast to see how much of the sport you are actually watching.

For super-fans, every second of the game is probably “in play” but we wanted to look at it from a casual fan perspective. What can you expect from the styles and action of each game if you’re just getting into sports?

The games we tracked were:

⚾️ Yankees vs. Dodgers - Saturday October 26th

🏈 Ravens vs. Buccanneers - Monday October 21st

🏒 Avalanche vs. Bruins - Wednesday October 16th

🏀 Lakers vs. Suns - Friday October 25th

For each sport, the “in play” timing was:

⚾️ When the pitcher came set to the end of the play

🏈 Hike to whistle

🏒 Puck drop to whistle

🏀 Inbound to whistle

Notes: For this series we only had time to do these sports but will try to add soccer, rugby, AFL, racing and others in the near future!

The MLB game was a world series game which means commercials were longer than regular season and there were more pitching changes than normal which increased the out of play time.
